Great Granny Along

If you can believe it. . . I've gone and joined a Sew Along!

I don't usually join Sew Alongs because I'm rather pathetic at it and I don't especially like feeling like a failure. Any of you know what I mean? It has to do with following through on things and if I can't follow through then, I try not to join any type of Block of the Months, Sew Alongs, or Block Exchanges, unless I know for sure that I have the time and can actually accomplish the task I've signed up for. I just don't like being a flaky flake! Time for the fun stuff can be very elusive!


Well, here are the details. . .

The Sew Along is called The Great Granny Along and it was started by two of my long time friends and bloggers, Lori of Bee in My Bonnet Co. and Jodi of Pleasant Home. I was sooo excited about the sew along that I practically ran to join the Flickr group.

I'm having such a great time that I would encourage you to go HERE and join. No pressure, just a lot of FUN and once you make ONE block I know you'll want to make another. . . and another!!! I've already made 7 and I have 2 more blocks cut out  and ready to sew.  That's 9 Blocks and that's enough blocks to finish a small quilt as seen in Lori's blog post.

October Schnibbling

Last night, my friend, Diana and I went Schnibbling and Quilt Shop Hopping to the Holiday Shop Hop "Fall Frenzy" that's going on this weekend throughout Utah and Salt Lake Counties. We left at 4:00pm hoping to make it to at least 4 or 5 shops but, only visited 3 shops before our class at 6:30pm at Thimbles and Threads. The TRAFFIC and TALKING slowed us down. lol.

I probably won't have time to visit any more shops today because I'm trying to finish up a few projects and get to the post office to mail a few things. and tomorrow we are taking the kids, grandkids, and neighbor kids out to Cornbelly's at Thanksgiving Point.

I will have to see about Saturday. Oh, but, I have laundry and cleaning to do....darn. I will have to get busy.

Here are a few pictures from last night and as you can see we have a few headless quilts. I'm afraid that a few of the ladies are totally shy but, I can relate. Did you see me in any of the pictures. lol. I made Diana hold my quilt so I could get a picture of it. hehehe.

This is my version of Roundabout.

It only took me two months to find the time to finish it.

Now I just need to quilt it.

Dear Jane Night

This month was Dear Jane Night at our Alpine Quilt Group. It was really a lot of fun hearing about Jane's quilt and to see some of the completed Dear Jane Quilts and Dear Jane's that are in varying processes of completion. Some of the ladies also shared stories of a trip that several of them made back to Vermont to see Jane's Quilt. It was fun listening to their adventures.


I've been following an online group of Dear Jane fanatics at that quilt for over a year now but I'm not actively current at the moment. Go check out Anina's blog, she creates wonderful tutorials on each block and it's so fun to follow along. Personally, I still only have 14 blocks done and over 150 more to go and that's not even counting the border blocks. After seeing the Dear Jane quilts tonight, I am inspired to keep going. One quilter in our group said that she's on the 30 year plan. I'm not too far behind her. lol!

I'm sure you can guess which color of Dear Jane Quilt was my favorite...

Can you guess what's different about this Dear Jane?

I just love how this quilt looks. If you look closely you will see that each block is machine embroidered. Clever, huh? She used white thread on red fabric and red thread on white fabric and alternated the blocks. I absolutely love how this turned out. Even the borders are beautifully done. Someone asked how much thread she went through and she said that it only took 2 big spools of white and 2 big spools of red thread to make the blocks.


I do have to apologize that I was 30 minutes late to quilting so I missed all of the show n' tell. I really hate missing show n' tell. I know it's the best part but I just had to make my blocks for the last month of our block exchanges. I totally forgot!

Below you will see a quilt that my friend, Dianna made from the blocks we've been exchanging for the last 9 months. Don't you just love it? The center is actually a panel.




I've been burning my candle at both ends and in the middle too! Heck, I'm not sure if I have any candle left. Ha! Ha! Ha! I'm really sorry I've not been blogging much lately either but I will try to do a few more posts this week or weekend. I've been reading as many blogs as I have time for and love every minute I can take to visit all of you. I hope you're having a great week so far.

I'll be doing a Halloween post to show you all of the costume sewing I've been doing. I have one done, one nearly done, and two more to go maybe part of a third one too. I know! Call me CRAZY!! That's my name lately!!

30's Night

I had a wonderful time at OUR Alpine Quilt Night this past Tuesday and I wanted to share it with all of you. It's taken me a few days to go through the 114 pictures I took at our 30's Night and I picked the best of the best to show you. It was hard picking just a few to show you.

Here's one of our Fearless Leaders, Flora. She and Paula have taken turns each year to lead us and inspire us. They are wonderful and generous women who love to share their love of quilting with all of us. They both have a great sense of humor and I don't think there's been one month that I haven't gone away happy. We have a lot of fun laughing and sharing. It's a big highlight for me and I look forward to going each month.


This is part of the 30's display table. Nanette made the darling teapot quilt in the frame. I just loved it!!!


Did you know that Betty Crocker is NOT a REAL person? That's something I never knew before last night.


Here's a display of food products that came from the 30's. I've used a lot of these products in my own kitchen. Infact, My grandson lives off of Macaroni N' Cheese. Whenever he comes to my house he wants me to make him "Grammi Noodles" LOL!


I thought you would be interested in seeing this original book of patterns from the Kansas City Star Newspaper. I didn't have time to look at it closely but thought that this book would be a wonderful addition to anyone's quilting library.
