Springtime in the Rockies Blog Tour & Giveaway

Welcome to my part of the Springtime in the Rockies Blog Tour that runs through Sept. 27th.

Even though it's officially FALL here in the Rockies it seems like SPRING with all of the beautiful colors on the mountainside. Yesterday I was driving to a family gathering and the colors were out in force. Everywhere you looked you could see color splashed across the valley!! It was absolutely beautiful!!!

I took this picture Monday evening around 7pm as the sun was going down. I saw this beautiful view as I was dropping my daughter off at her dance class so, I rushed home and grabbed my camera so I could capture the beauty that was all around me. The valley literally glowed! I love the mountains and sometimes they become such a part of your life that you can easily forget to look at them and take in their beauty. Note to Self... Remember to STOP and LOOK around YOU! Enjoy the Fall Colors!

My favorite mountain growing up was Mt. Timpanogos. Every day I could look out my window and see it's majestic peeks. I loved seeing my mountains and when I moved to California it just didn't feel like home. When we moved back I knew it was home because I felt comforted seeing the mountains all around me.

And that leads me into talking about quilts, which always bring comfort! Right? Well, I want to share with you a new QUILT BOOK called "Springtime in the ROCKIES" by Konda Luckau and 8 other Rocky Mountain Quilters. 

Today I'm joining with my friend, Machelle Preston, in celebrating her project in the new book "Springtime in the ROCKIES" and the quilt is called "Stepping into Spring". . . it's a darling Nine-Patch and Snowball Quilt (along with a few HST's) with a bit of applique and embroidery sewn in the center of the quilt. You will find Machelle's Quilt on pages #54-59.

The BIG NEWS today is that. . . I'm not only giving away THE BOOK. . . but I'm also giving away a MINI MUG RUG that I made up using a scaled down block version of Machelle's quilt project. Isn't it sooo cute? I love things that are itty bitty, teeny tiny, and really small.

The Block measures 5 inches square and it's the perfect size to place your hot mug of chocolate on while you're working on your FALL and WINTER Projects...

I hope the winner loves it as much as I do because I almost kept it for myself. lol.

Book Signing for Paranormalcy

It's been more than a few weeks since we went to the book signing of my daughter's friend and writing buddy, Kiersten White. It was such a blast. I have to say that this is the 2nd book signing I've been to and it was a lot of fun being with my daughter, her husband, and her friends.

First Quilt of 2010

My first quilt of 2010 was made

for one of my dearest friends, Suzette.

The picture was taken on 1-9-10 just after the funeral luncheon.
I'm so happy my husband caught a smile!
It was a very sweet moment together as we said good-bye to each other.

The name of the quilt is. . .

"Remembering Rachel"

I dropped everything I could to get this quilt sewn, quilted, and bond before we left for California on Thursday, January 7th for Rachel's Funeral on Saturday, January 9th. My friends daughter, Rachel fought Leukemia for most of 2009 and passed away just before Christmas. Rachel had decided to do a bone marrow transplant and fought hard before her body could no longer fight off the infection that took her life on December 23, 2009.

Her family misses her deeply. Her mother said one thing to me the day after she died that prompted me to make a quilt for her. She said, "I feel so empty." I could feel the emptiness that filled her heart and I ached for her. So, I went to work making a quilt that would help fill a bit of the emptiness and be a reminder of the love that's still all around her. The funeral was well attended and you could feel the love everywhere.


Rachel was 27 years old and brought so much happiness to those around her, even when she was at her lowest point. She had so much faith, hope, and concern for others. Many of her friends would often come to visit Rachel. She would listen and always wanted to help her friends, the nurses, doctors and other patients. She often brought a smile to the faces of those that came to cheer her up. The one thing that people will always remember about RACHEL is her infectious SMILE! I've known Rachel since she was a little girl and she ALWAYS had a SMILE on her FACE.


I asked my quilter to quilt an "R" inside of 27 hearts as a reminder of the 27 years that she lived here on this earth. I also asked her to quilt a heart design in each block, sashings, and in the border. I love how it turned out. You should be able to see the Hearts with the R's in them. You can click on the pictures to get a better look.

The quilt pattern is a revised Moda Bakeshop pattern by Roslyn Mirrington of Bloom & Blossom. You can find her MBS tutorial here. I just added sashings, posts and made the quilt a bit smaller and left out the applique. Everything else is the same. It's a great pattern. Go check it out today. You'll LOVE it!

Blogger Quilt Festival

Thanks Amy for your most recent reminder that the Blogger's Quilt Festival entries end tonight. It looks like I'm just going to make it under the wire. I've been so crazy busy this week with Moda Bake Shop and managing my MBS Giveaway that I almost missed out. I'm so glad I was checking out my google reader and saw the post you did today. I look forward to looking at more of the quilts on Mr. Linky. Thanks for all that you do to promote quilting!!! It's so fun!!!


Now on to my entry. I made this quilt for my first grandson Benjamin. He absolutely LOVES this quilt and it was really hard to borrow it back from him so I could wash it and take pictures of it. It was great to see how happy he was to have his quilt back.


The quilt pattern is called Hopscotch by Two Peas in a POD. I'm sorry I haven't found a link yet to their patterns but I will keep looking. I'm quite certain they're local designers.


I bought the material a long time ago before my grandson was even born and I knew the minute I saw it that I needed to buy it so, that I could make a boy baby quilt for my future grandson. It's perfect for a little boy. Don't you think?

30's Night

I had a wonderful time at OUR Alpine Quilt Night this past Tuesday and I wanted to share it with all of you. It's taken me a few days to go through the 114 pictures I took at our 30's Night and I picked the best of the best to show you. It was hard picking just a few to show you.

Here's one of our Fearless Leaders, Flora. She and Paula have taken turns each year to lead us and inspire us. They are wonderful and generous women who love to share their love of quilting with all of us. They both have a great sense of humor and I don't think there's been one month that I haven't gone away happy. We have a lot of fun laughing and sharing. It's a big highlight for me and I look forward to going each month.


This is part of the 30's display table. Nanette made the darling teapot quilt in the frame. I just loved it!!!


Did you know that Betty Crocker is NOT a REAL person? That's something I never knew before last night.


Here's a display of food products that came from the 30's. I've used a lot of these products in my own kitchen. Infact, My grandson lives off of Macaroni N' Cheese. Whenever he comes to my house he wants me to make him "Grammi Noodles" LOL!


I thought you would be interested in seeing this original book of patterns from the Kansas City Star Newspaper. I didn't have time to look at it closely but thought that this book would be a wonderful addition to anyone's quilting library.
