I designed and made this quilt years ago and wanted to share the story behind it.
I have a friend who's name is Judy and every Thanksgiving they put out their special tablecloth. As friends and family come to their home for dinner they have each person sign their name on the tablecloth and write something they are grateful for that day. I thought it would be fun to make a quilt to document the blessings we have in our family each year. It's fun to look back and see the kid's signature and what they wrote.
The leaves, branches, and acorns are machine appliqued. The words are embroidered and the machine quilting was done by a local quilt shop. I really love this quilt. I left the center open so when the quilt is on the table you can place a nice floral arrangement in the middle.
Here are the signatures from years past. I forgot to bring it out this year because when I'm in charge of the big Thanksgiving dinner I get distracted. I even put it out on the stair railing so I wouldn't forget and I did. Oh well! Maybe next year I can remember!

Kim I love this! My niece and I were talking about doing a tablecloth, but didn't think about it til Thanksgiving eve. What a precious memory, I only wish we had done it before we lost our dad. Thank-you so much for sharing!!
Blessings,
Laurie
I make signature quilts for lots of occasions. I have made a signature quilt for each of my grand kids first Christmas. They can't go with me to visit family in Louisiana, (my Suburban isn't big enough) so I have taken their signature quilts to LA so family there can sign them. The kids are too little now to appreciate them, but it's fun to go back and look at the signatures, especially for the ones that have passed on.
I love the idea for making one for Thanksgiving. I hope you had a nice day.
What a great idea Kim -- the Thanksgiving quilt is beautiful! I've enjoyed catching up with your Thanksgiving -- it looks like you all had a wonderful day! Your sister's pie looks awesome. Maybe she could give some of us apple pie challenged people a lesson. I've always struggled with apple pies 'cause it seems like the apples are always different!
What a beautiful idea! The finished product is spectacular!!!
Love your quilt idea...hummm...maybe I'll have to make a Thanksgiving tradition with a Thanksgiving quilt. BTW, love your blog.
Mary
