Happy Father's Day

It's Father's Day and I wanted to take a moment and say Happy Father's Day to my Dear Husband Mark, my Dad Gene, my father-in-law Ben, my Son-in-law Nick, and my son Mark (father in training . . . thanks to his nephew, Ben and his niece, Kora).

All of these men are part of my life and I'm so grateful for their love, kindness, support, and the example they are to me. I want each of you to know how much I love and appreciate you! I hope you have a wonderful day!

An Early Picture of Mark and I while we were dating. At this point I was pretty sure it was just a matter of time before he'd propose to me. It was just a month later on August 22, 1982. If you look close I still had braces and got them off a few days after he proposed. He must have loved me!

This picture was taken when Mark was a new father and was giving Natalie her first bath. He was very nervous but my mom helped make him feel comfortable and showed him what to do.

Here Mark is standing by our son, Mark on Main Street in Disneyland. Some of our favorite family memories were made at Disneyland and Disney World.

This is a family picture of us when Ariel was born in December 1989. Don't you just love the glasses? It's funny to see the different glasses we've both had over the years.

The History of Father's Day

The idea of father's day was conceived by Sonora Dodd of Spokane, Washington, while she listened to a Mother's Day sermon in 1909. Dodd wanted a special day to honor her father, William Smart, a widowed Civil War veteran who was left to raise his six children alone.

June 19, 1910, was chosen for the first Father's Day celebration, as proclaimed by Spokane's mayor, because it was the month of Smart's birth. The first presidential proclamation honoring fathers was issued in 1966 when President Lyndon Johnson designated the third Sunday in June as Father's Day. Father's Day has been officially celebrated since 1972 when President Richard Nixon signed a bill that made the holiday permanent.
